"Just Google It."
"Just Google it." This is often the first thing you are told to before starting any research process. You have to learn a little background on the subject before you can know where your research should focus next. So that is what I did, I Googled "Marrying a Murderer," I clicked on the first result that appeared. The website was called "theguardian," a newspaper for news, sports, and opinion. The article was titled, "I married a murderer...and other inside stories" - so opinion. It was published in May of 2002. Okay, so now I know that this concept of marrying murderers has been around for awhile and people are writing about it. The article told stories of different women and how they met their husbands. Some of the stories involved married wives, some were stories of years going by before they finally came back to each other. If you take out the whole convicted felon thing, you would think that it was sweet love story. The article talked a little about the rationalization that the women used to justify being with and/or marring a criminal. One on the interesting reasons that was given was that they believed that they were innocent. Heck, one woman was the prisoners solicitor, ( the chief law officer of a city, town, or government department, - thanks Google.) she believed he was innocent and soon after fell in love.
As I continued to read, I had another question answered. The author talked about the weeding protocol for the prisoners, in doing so she mention that it costed £20 just or the officers to escort the prisoners guests from the main gate to where the ceremony will take place. So, I now know that marrying a murderer is a world wide thing. I will definitely be doing more research on what countries have the highest and lowest prison marriage rates. It think that it will be very interesting and lead me to other aspects of the topic.
Now where do I go from here?
Back to Google.
